FESTIVAL OF GLASTONBURY, ENGLAND

  • Origin: A series of concerts, lectures and recitals called the Glastonbury Festivals was established with a summer school in the town of Glastonbury between 1914 and 1926 by classical composer Rutland Boughton.
  • Characteristics: It is a festival where there is contemporary music, dance, comedy, theater, circus, cabaret and other arts. Films and recorded albums have been released, and the festival receives extensive television and journalistic coverage. It is the largest greenfield festival in the world, and around 175,000 people attend.
  • Tradition: The festival is inspired by the spirit of the hippie, the counterculture and the movements of free festivals.
